Advocates for Colorectal Education (ACE)
is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in 2001 by
nine colorectal cancer survivors eager to turn a life-threatening
experience into a life-saving legacy.
What distinguishes our group is our mission: to reduce colorectal disease
incidence and mortality by advocating for early education, surveillance and patient
support .
Recognizing that colorectal cancer is one of the more preventable cancers, education
is our focus, not fundraising for research. We know that with early screening,
the precursors of cancer can be found and proactive action taken.
One other unique characteristic of ACE is that we do not use a colored ribbon
as a signature marketing tool. Instead, we wear and share a simple, iridescent
bracelet of gold, silver, black and blue. This survivor symbol is placed
on the wrist of a person we know needs colorectal cancer screening. It
is a steadfast, gentle reminder to make a doctor’s appointment, and to
follow through with appropriate testing. The bracelet is then passed along
lovingly to a friend or relative who also needs testing. It is a perpetual
symbol of hope, a reminder that positive action can outshine the darkness of
disease.
For individuals unexpectedly diagnosed with colorectal cancer, ACE offers a gift
of hope: our complimentary “Welcome to the Club” care basket. We
know our literature will help you on your journey. Our friendship will
strengthen and support you. That is our promise.
Contact us to obtain a bracelet, complimentary care basket, or information about
support services. Planning an event? Consider using our speakers’ bureau. Want
to get involved? Support our ACE legacy by becoming a member or donating
resources. Help get the word out that colorectal cancer is the leading
cause of cancer deaths second only to lung cancer. Yes, more women die
of colon cancer than breast cancer! It needn’t be a guarded secret.
Please don’t gamble on your health or leave it to chance. Get screening
. Support us with your modest contribution. And tell others to do
the same.
It is an investment we all can live with.
